In a major breakthrough for peace and stability, the Executive Chairman of Ado Local Government, Engr. Sunny Oche, has announced that the long-standing crisis between the Effium and Ezza people has been largely resolved, bringing a renewed sense of hope to the affected communities.
Speaking with Idoma Dominion, Engr. Oche revealed that after years of conflict, which had claimed many lives and caused the destruction of property worth millions, peace is finally within reach. “Go and investigate it—it is 95% solved now,” he confidently stated, emphasizing the extensive efforts taken to address the issue.
A key turning point in the peace process was a crucial meeting with Ezza chiefs in Benue State, during which agreements were reached to ensure the safe return of displaced families to their ancestral homes. “They have assured me that they are going back to their various homes, and security measures have been put in place to protect them from any further threats,” Oche added.
Beyond resolving the crisis, the administration has also prioritized strategic infrastructure development to foster economic growth and strengthen communal ties. A major road project is currently underway, stretching from Abakaliki through Mbeke down to Ohalikwe, with an extension to Ijigban, effectively linking the region to the eastern part of Nigeria. This project, in collaboration with Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi of Abakaliki/Izzi, is expected to boost trade, enhance mobility, and accelerate development.
Furthering this progress, additional road connections between Igumale and Ijigban, extending to the Ado Bridge, are in motion to ensure better accessibility for residents. These infrastructural developments mark a turning point for peace, security, and prosperity in the region.
While challenges still exist at the border areas between Ebonyi and Benue States, particularly with the Ndobasi and Ubenyi communities of Izzi, Engr. Oche reassures that continuous dialogue and collaboration remain key priorities in ensuring lasting peace and stability.
Today, the people of Effium and Ezza can finally look ahead with optimism, knowing that their homes, heritage, and livelihoods are being restored. The road to peace has been long and challenging, but with dedication and unity, the dream of a harmonious and thriving region is now a reality.
